NIMS Training for Administrators

Colorado Revised Statute (4), which is also refered to as the Colorado Safe Schools Act, requires school building administrators to be trained in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

As a building administrator, this training will give you a broad view of how emergencies are handled by first responders and your role in assisting in these resolutions. Below are the two links you will need to complete in order to be in compliance. Please complete this training as soon as possible but prior to returning from Fall recess.

Also, APS employee safety and incident management training, including provisions stating that completion of any courses identified by the department of public safety pursuant to section 24-33.5-1606.5(3), C.R.S., as related to NIMS count toward the professional development requirements of a person licensed pursuant to article 60.5 of this title. Once you complete a course, Federal Emergency Management Agency will email you a certificate. Please keep a copy for yourself and forward a copy to the Security Office.

FEMA has also developed other classes for school and child care professionals. While these classes are not mandatory, they may be helpful in you current or future role as an building administrator. Again, the below two classes are not required but should you complete the online training, please forward the certificates to Safety and Security.
