Welcome to the Department of Assessment.

Purpose: To provide and support systems that empower students to show what they know and are able to do, thereby supporting their decision making regarding their learning, and providing evidence to teachers that informs instruction.

Our district assessment practices are linked to students' understanding of where they are, what they can do, and what they need to work on to continue their learning. We work to ensure that our teachers are able to effectively link assessment evidence to teaching and learning every day.

Latest News on Assessment and Accountability Implications

The current guidance from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) is that all state assessment requirements will remain in place for all students, until further notice.

  • Current State guidance requires that all state assessments, such as PSAT, SAT, ACCESS, and CMAS are to be taken in person, and cannot be assessed in a virtual environment.
  • APS considers these assessments to be important measures of student learning and we are diligently working on plans at all levels to accommodate students so they have access to a safe assessment environment throughout the school year.
  • Note: Similar to previous years, parents have the opportunity to opt their students out of some state assessments (NOT ACCESS). Please see the Parent tab for more information.
