We are thrilled to announce that Aurora voters overwhelmingly approved ballot measures 5A and 5B, passing both our 2024 Bond and Capital Mill Levy! The $1 billion bond—the largest in Colorado state history—and $30 million annual capital mill levy will provide essential funding for new buildings, facility upgrades and enhanced learning opportunities for all students, all without increasing taxes for Aurora residents.

The passage of these measures demonstrates the strength of our community’s belief in Aurora Public Schools’ mission and vision. These measures represent the biggest investment in the future of our schools to date, one that will create generational impacts for students, families and staff alike. With this funding, our students will be able to thrive in safe, equitable and innovative learning environments, giving them the best foundation for academic success. Thanks to this historic support, APS is on the path to becoming a true Destination District—a place where our community’s investment in students creates a stronger and brighter future for all of Aurora.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many staff members who worked tirelessly to develop these measures. Special thanks go to our Long-Range Facilities Advisory Committee, internal working groups and everyone who contributed their time and expertise to ensure these measures met our community’s needs. We are also grateful to the Aurora Citizens for Excellent Education and our generous donors, whose efforts and support during the campaign were instrumental in securing this outcome.

As we look to the future, our focus will turn to implementation. Planning for bond projects, including the design of two new P-8 schools, a high school along the E-470 corridor and the construction of a new Health Science High School in Northwest Aurora is set to begin this school year. While the 2024 Bond Program will fund new and ongoing construction needs across the district, the 2024 Capital Mill Levy will provide funding for ongoing capital maintenance needs at every APS school. This will enable us to invest general fund dollars in other crucial areas, such as recruiting and retaining teachers, mental health resources and expanding educational programs.

To our entire community, thank you for your trust, partnership and dedication to the future of Aurora Public Schools. Together, we are creating a brighter and stronger future for all APS students.
