The season of celebration for our Class of 2025 has officially begun! Aurora Public Schools’ annual Bright Lights ceremony recognizes the top ten seniors at each of our high schools. As the school year races toward the finish line, it’s a time to slow down and admire the amazing accomplishments of our highest-performing students.

“To reach top-ten status, these students have worked tirelessly to achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership and contribute positively to their communities,” said Superintendent Michael Giles, Jr. during the event. “These young adults are not only role models for their peers, but an inspiration to us all.”

When Aditi Arreola Quinones, William Smith High School’s valedictorian, looks back on her time in high school, she’s amazed at her progress. She’s earned scholarships, leadership honors and too many athletic accolades to name, but it’s the social skills she’s sharpened that jump to her mind above all else.

“When I first came to William Smith, I was closed off and didn’t know anyone. But it’s a place that encourages you to do more and meet everyone,” said Aditi. “One of the first weeks, we took a test and had to know, like, 80 people’s names. I definitely embrace that now and want to take that with me to college.”

“My memories are of my friends and experiences from performing arts. Percy Jackson, The Odd Couple–so many great shows,” said Peter. “I’ve learned how to be the person I want to be. High school was great, but I’m so excited for the future.”

As we celebrate the achievements of these remarkable students, we must also acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the parents, teachers, mentors and others who have helped them power their potential. One of the goals of our strategic plan, Destination APS, is to make sure every student has a community of support. With events like Bright Lights, it’s a wonderful opportunity to see that community come to life.

Congratulations to our top ten students and good luck in your bright futures ahead!
