There is something special about the start of a new school year! Classrooms fill with energy, students reconnect with friends and teachers and new opportunities for learning and growth begin to take shape.
That excitement could be felt across Aurora Public Schools as students, families and staff came together to kick off the 2026-27 school year.
The celebration began before the first day of school with one of APS' favorite traditions, the 18th Annual Back-to-School Kickoff. Thousands of students and families gathered to celebrate the year ahead while receiving free backpacks, school supplies, community resources, food, entertainment and more. Thanks to the support of APS staff, volunteers and community partners, students left the event ready and excited for their first day.
The energy continued as APS staff from across the district gathered virtually for the annual All-Staff Kickoff. While connecting around district priorities and their shared commitment to students, staff also heard directly from a special panel of APS students who shared their experiences, hopes and aspirations for the future. Their voices served as an inspiring reminder of the impact APS staff have on students every day.
Then it was time to officially welcome students back!
Across the district, schools came alive as students walked through the doors for the first day of classes. From reconnecting with familiar faces to meeting new teachers and classmates, the excitement of a fresh start could be seen throughout the APS community.
