January is School Board Recognition Month, and Aurora Public Schools proudly thanks our Board of Education for their dedicated service to our students, staff, families and community.
APS Board members play a vital role in shaping the district’s vision and breaking down barriers so every student can engage, grow and Power Their Potential. As representatives of Aurora’s diverse community, they bring a wide range of professional and lived experiences to their work—while also serving as parents, grandparents, caregivers, and community members themselves.
Though their backgrounds may differ, these everyday citizens come together with a shared purpose: to support student success across Aurora Public Schools. Too often, the personal sacrifices required to govern a large, complex school district go unseen.
Board meetings represent only a small portion of the time and energy our Board members devote to APS. In addition to preparing for meetings and reviewing reports, agendas, and proposals, they attend seminars, conferences, school events, and community gatherings —often on evenings and weekends, and always on their own time.
This commitment to service goes far beyond what is required. APS Board members consistently go the extra mile to ensure decisions are thoughtful, student-centered and reflective of the community they serve.
While January offers a special opportunity to say thank you, we recognize that the APS Board of Education’s leadership and dedication are demonstrated year-round. We encourage our community to take a moment to express gratitude for the service, stewardship and care our Board members provide in support of APS students and families.
