Aurora Public Schools is excited to announce that the district's two new P-8 schools will be called Del Mar Academy and Aurora Highlands P-8. The Board of Education approved the two names during their March 21 Board Meeting.
Del Mar Academy is being built on the site of the former Lyn Knoll Elementary School in western Aurora, one of the oldest parts of the city. The new school will be an expansive three-story building featuring state-of-the-art science rooms, a STEM lab and an art room. The school will serve students who currently attend Sixth Avenue Elementary School, which will close at the end of the 2022-23 school year. The new school will open as a P-6, ultimately serving students in grades P-8.
Aurora Highlands P-8 is being built in The Aurora Highlands neighborhood and will be the first of four schools in the 4,000-acre master-planned community in northeastern Aurora. The school will serve around 1,000 students in preschool through 8th grade and have state-of-the-art technology.
Construction is well underway at both schools and they are expected to be completed in time to welcome students for the 2023-24 school year. Both school's construction were made possible thanks to generous Aurora voters who approved the district's $300 million bond measure in Nov. 2016.
