Aurora Public Schools Breaks Ground on Two New P-8 Schools
Posted on 09/01/2022
Aurora Public Schools ceremoniously broke ground on two new P-8 schools as part of Blueprint APS, the district's long-term facilities and educational plan to provide students with the necessary resources, schools and learning opportunities to meet the challenges of the future.
The new P-8 school being built in The Aurora Highlands will be the first of four schools in the 4,000-acre master-planned community in northeastern Aurora. The school will serve around 1,000 students in preschool through 8th grade and have state-of-the-art technology.
"One of the main reasons we moved here was because we wanted access to a new, top-quality public school that is right around the corner from us," said The Aurora Highlands resident and prospective parent Jazmin Apolinar. "We can't wait to see our children learning and growing in this new school."

The other P-8 school is being built on the site of the former Lyn Knoll Elementary in western Aurora. Students and families are excitedly tracking the construction of this new school in one of the oldest parts of the city. The new and yet-to-be-named school will be an expansive three-story building featuring state-of-the-art science rooms, a STEM lab and an art room.
"New schools are symbols of the future," said Aurora Public Schools parent Arlene Garcia. "We are proud to live in a school district that truly cares about serving our students and planning for the future."

Construction of both schools began in Feb. 2022 and is funded through APS' bond program, a $300 million measure that voters approved in Nov. 2016. The new schools will open in time for the 2023-24 school year.
