Thank you for your expressed interest in home-based education!
In order to comply with state law, we ask that you advise us if your child(ren) will participate in a home-based educational program for the 20026-27 school year. You may do so by completing the Intent to Homeschool Form linked above.
You can mail in the Annual Notification form with your information to the Student Records address located at the top of the form. We ask you to complete or return your information to our office 14 days prior to establishing a home study program.
You may begin your program as soon as you have notified the Aurora Public Schools and established your curriculum. If your student(s) is currently enrolled in an Aurora Public School, please notify the school(s) that you are withdrawing your student to do homebased education before you register for Home School. In accordance with state laws which govern home study programs, the parent or guardian is required to have their student(s) tested if they are in grades 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11. Parents must then report the test results to the Aurora Public Schools or to an independent or parochial school within the state of Colorado. However, if such results are sent to an independent or parochial school, the Aurora Public Schools must be provided with the name of the school to which such results have been sent. The test that is to be given must be a nationally standardized achievement test.
Should you decide to return your student(s) to the Aurora Public Schools from a home schooling situation, you will need to provide documentation that the requirements of all Colorado state laws pertaining to a home-based educational program have been met. This includes, but is not limited to, the required number of instructional hours per day; the required number of instructional days per year; educational program content areas; and standardized testing. In order to receive a high school diploma, students must meet all Aurora Public Schools' graduation requirements as outlined in District Regulation IKF-I and IKFB. In addition, in order to be eligible to receive academic honors at commencement, the student must meet the Aurora Public Schools' guidelines as stated in District Regulation IKD-R. Those policies and regulations are available upon written request.
Please notify this office if your student returns on a full-time basis to the Aurora Public Schools.
