If friable asbestos-containing material or suspected asbestos-containing material has been damaged or fallen, follow these steps:

  • Do not attempt to clean up the material.
  • Evacuate the immediate area.
  • Isolate the damaged area to the greatest extent possible by shutting doors and windows.
  • Immediately call Facilities Security at extension 28484 to report the incident. Include the following information:

  1. The asbestos-containing material in question

  2. The location of the material

  3. The extent of the damage (approximate quantity of material)

If non-friable asbestos-containing material or suspected asbestos-containing material has been damaged or fallen, follow these steps:

  • Remove and keep the broken piece of asbestos-containing material in a plastic bag.
  • Create a work order for Environmental Compliance.
