What is ASCENT?

FREE College + Exceptional Support

ASCENT is a first-year college experience program for students following completion of their senior year. Students receive a free year of college at Community College of Aurora, Metropolitan State University of Denver, or Pickens Technical College.


  • Free college of course. But more than this, the APS ASCENT program provides students with exceptional support, preparing them for long-term college success.
  • As part of the Student Success Center, CCA students receive transfer services including visits to four-year universities and strategic advising, ensuring CCA classes align with bachelor degree plans.
  • Both CCA & MSU Denver students receive assistance applying for scholarships and financial aid to assist them after their ASCENT year.
  • PTC students develop 21st century skills leading to employment in a specialized field.

Who are APS ASCENT Scholars?

ASCENT scholars are dedicated to personal and academic growth and work hard to reach their goals. They are moving towards degree completion while exploring career options.

How do I Qualify?

  • Meet all high school graduation requirements
  • Complete 12 college credit hours-100 level or above with 'C'or better by end of senior year
  • Be college ready in Math & English *Not required for PTC or certain CCA certificate programs.
