Mission: In close collaboration with the Aurora community, the mission of the Mental Health and Counseling Department is to promote an environment where students feel a sense of belonging, create strong connections, and have the skills required to regulate their emotions so they can effectively access education and engage with the wider community.

Goals: Our goals are to ensure every student is connected to at least one adult in the school, feels a sense of belonging in their school community, and has the skills and strategies to regulate.

Connection, Belonging, and Regulation are the three highest leverage factors in students' environments that protect against life-long consequences. Click here to learn more about them!

Mental Health providers in Aurora Public Schools consist of school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists.  School counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists all play vital roles in enhancing students' mental health and academic success. They each advocate for student well-being, promote equity, and support the development of skills necessary for postsecondary readiness. These professionals collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to provide interventions and resources tailored to students' needs. They also engage in data-informed practices to identify challenges and improve outcomes for all students.

Every school has mental health professionals who provide services on an individual, group, and whole-building level. Find your school’s mental health providers below.

Chromebook Use Over Summer Break

As we near the end of the school year, we want to assure you that Aurora Public Schools will continue to prioritize student online safety over summer break. Below, you will find information regarding Chromebook monitoring, usage and availability.

Chromebook Monitoring

APS uses a tool called Linewize to help monitor student activity on district devices. This allows us to identify and respond to potentially concerning online behavior and better support student well-being.

To encourage healthy screen time habits and support online student safety during the summer, APS will continue to monitor activity via Linewize and share reports directly with school administrators.

Chromebook Usage

Chromebooks will only be activated for students enrolled in APS summer programs, including summer school, Extended School Year (ESY) and Edgenuity. If your student is enrolled in an APS summer program, please contact your school administrator immediately so we can ensure continued safety monitoring and support.

Chromebook Availability

Students enrolled in APS summer programs may use their Chromebooks based on the following schedule:

  • May 23 – June 27: Chromebooks will be disabled every night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • June 28 – July 31: Chromebooks will be completely turned off and unavailable.
  • August 1: Chromebooks will be reactivated for all students for the 2025-26 school year.

As always, we appreciate your partnership in keeping our students safe—both in person and online.

*APS Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey and Pulse Checks*

Aurora Public Schools Parents and Guardians of Students in Grades 3–12:

In Aurora Public Schools (APS), students are valued, seen, safe and thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Key factors that contribute to a student’s well-being include having a connection with a trusted adult, a sense of belonging and the ability to manage their emotions. These factors not only help students form and maintain healthy relationships but also contribute to their academic success.

To further support our students, at the beginning of the year, APS will be conducting a voluntary, online Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey for students in grades 3–12. Survey results will help us improve students’ educational experiences by ensuring they feel seen, heard and understood.

During the remainder of the school year, the Mental Health and Counseling Department will be administering "pulse checks," which are composed of a select few of the questions that were administered during the BOY survey. These pulse checks are designed to track student responses over the course of the year for a more comprehensive view of students' perceptions of connection, regulation and belonging.

The pulse checks are composed of 5-6 questions for grades 3-12 and should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.

Please be aware that students’ email addresses will be collected to offer personalized support based on their responses. Participation in the survey is optional and students may skip any questions they don’t understand or feel comfortable answering.

Students will not receive school credit for completing the survey and there will be no penalty for students who do not participate. Instead, they will work on regular school assignments during the survey time. If you prefer to opt your child out of the survey, please print, sign and return the opt-out form to your school’s front office by Friday, Feb. 21.

Thank you for your continued support,
Aurora Public Schools
