Mission: In close collaboration with the Aurora community, the mission of the Mental Health and Counseling Department is to promote an environment where students feel a sense of belonging, create strong connections, and have the skills required to regulate their emotions so they can effectively access education and engage with the wider community.

Goals: Our goals are to ensure every student is connected to at least one adult in the school, feels a sense of belonging in their school community, and has the skills and strategies to regulate.

Connection, Belonging, and Regulation are the three highest leverage factors in students' environments that protect against life-long consequences. Click here to learn more about them!

Mental Health providers in Aurora Public Schools consist of school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists.  School counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists all play vital roles in enhancing students' mental health and academic success. They each advocate for student well-being, promote equity, and support the development of skills necessary for postsecondary readiness. These professionals collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to provide interventions and resources tailored to students' needs. They also engage in data-informed practices to identify challenges and improve outcomes for all students.

Every school has mental health professionals who provide services on an individual, group, and whole-building level. Find your school’s mental health providers below.

Aurora Public Schools Parents and Guardians of Students in Grades 3–12:

In Aurora Public Schools (APS), students thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Key factors that contribute to a student’s well-being include having a connection with a trusted adult, a sense of belonging and the ability to manage their emotions. These factors not only help students form and maintain healthy relationships, but also contribute to their academic success.

To further support our students, the APS Mental Health & Counseling Department will conduct a voluntary, online Connection, Belonging & Regulation (CBR) Survey for students in grades 3–12. Survey results will help us improve students’ educational experiences by ensuring they feel seen, heard and valued.

Schools will choose a date between September 8-12 for students to complete the survey during class. You may review the survey for grades 3-5 and the survey for grades 6-12. In addition, we will ask periodic "pulse-check" questions to monitor our progress in providing meaningful CBR support.

Please be aware that individual student answers will not be visible to APS staff. Participation in the survey is optional and anonymous. Students may choose not to answer a question by selecting “prefer not to answer”.

Students will not receive school credit for completing the survey, and there will be no penalty for students who do not participate. Instead, they will work on regular school assignments during the survey time.

Thank you for your continued support,
Aurora Public Schools Mental Health & Counseling Department
