What is a Charter School?
A charter school is a tuition-free public school operated by an independent board of directors that may be composed of parents, teachers and community members. A charter school is a school of choice within the school district, operating under a contract or "charter" between the board of the charter school community and the APS Board of Education. The Charter School Team at Aurora Public Schools is housed in the Charter Authorizing Department.
How do I enroll my child in an APS Charter School?
Parents and Guardians can begin the enrollment process through APS Online Registration or by contacting the charter school directly for assistance with Online Registration (OLR).
In addition to APS Online Registration (OLR), the charter school may ask you to complete an Interest Form. Completing OLR or an Interest Form does not obligate you to enroll your child or guarantee you a spot at an APS charter school. Depending on the school's enrollment process and current student capacity, it may enter your child into a future lottery or place them on a waitlist if the school enrolls students on a first-come, first-served basis.
If your child is offered a seat through Online Registration, a lottery, or a waitlist, the school will notify you. Parents/guardians typically have a specified amount of time to accept the offer before the seat is offered to the next student.
Please note: All charter school students must officially enroll through APS Online Registration (OLR), in addition to completing any enrollment requirements established by the charter school.

If I have a concern with any APS Charter School, where should that concern be directed?
The parent should begin by contacting the personnel within the charter school. If that does not satisfactorily address the issue, make the governing board of the charter school aware of the issue. If unresolved there, the next step would be to contact APS by using the form below.
