Colorado's 2023 Teacher of the Year, Jimmy Day II, just returned from an exciting week at a NASA Space Camp. The camp is a special opportunity for Teachers of the Year from all over the country to come together. It was recently held at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL.
During the camp, the teachers performed simulated missions to the International Space Station and to Mars. They also simulated a crash landing in the water and got to see what it would be like to walk on the Moon!
Mr. Day said he was definitely out of his comfort zone (he tried zip lining for the first time), but loved being challenged at the camp. He said he also enjoyed the team-building activities he did with his fellow Teachers of the Year and plans to use some of those ideas to help his students build their teamwork.
We look forward to an equally-exciting school year with Mr. Day, the Instrumental Music Teacher and Band Director at East Middle School.
