IMPACT OUR YOUNGEST STUDENTS THROUGH ACCESS AND EXPOSURE TO DIFFERENT CAREERS

That's a job!

Dalton Elementary, Dartmouth Elementary, and the College and Career Success Tea, partnered with local and national partners to bring early career, college, and military conversations to k-5 classrooms! Students heard from and asked questions to a myriad of professionals in career clusters such as Finance, Government, Health Science, Human Services, Management, Public Safety, STEAM, Trade School, and Transportation. After conversations with professionals and an expanded career lens, students continued conversations in their classrooms about careers, pathways, and plans through their Individual Career and Academic Plan  (ICAP).

We thank Dartmouth and Dalton Elementary staff for partnering with us to deliver these fun, inspiring, and educational opportunities to our inspiring future professionals!

YOUNG AMERITOWNE

Young Ameritowne is an award-winning educational program available to 4th and 5th-grade teachers.  A day "in towne" is the culminating event after students complete lessons, job interviews, and participate in elections to determine their role for the day. As a program, Young Ameritowne teaches students about financial literacy, civics, job interviewing, and philanthropy. When students attend their opening ceremonies, business set-up, and financial transactions, both business and personal, that take place throughout the day. The day's goal is to make a profit for each business and for individuals not to overdraw their personal accounts.

The Young Ameritowne program aligns with the APS 2026 strategic plan by exposing elementary school-aged students to plan for their day in town which defines their jobs, earnings, and duties. The program also aligns with the ICAP themes that all APS students are exposed to. Students learn financial literacy skills by creating a checkbook and entering transactions into what they need for the day. Additionally, students learn about charity and philanthropy and how they, as citizens of Young Ameritowne, can impact the program and their communities in the future.
