Iowa Elementary Celebrates New Playground Installation

Community-led projects can be one of the most enjoyable experiences people have when they work together.

All hands on deck, to be exact. And that type of collaboration is priceless, even when temperatures are soaring outside.

A host of volunteers convened recently at Iowa Elementary School for a three-day extravaganza to help install a new playground for students and other neighborhood families. Temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s couldn’t even stop the show, as community members, APS staff and representatives from the Denver Broncos organization helped bring the project from idea to reality.

The partnership between APS, KABOOM! and the Denver Broncos Foundation allowed students and families to use their creativity to help design the new space to ensure some of their personal touches made the final layout.

Volunteers split up a handful of duties to bring everything together. Several helped paint park benches with creative, colorful designs while others constructed a tire swing. The fun continued as workers added other new elements to the space like tic-tac-toe boards, cornhole and new monkey bars.

Several current and former Denver Broncos players, including former running back Reuben Droughns, were also on hand to help put equipment together and give the new playground a hometown touch. High-energy mascot Miles worked his tail off to bring the perfect vibe to the last workday before the installation was complete.

In the end, Iowa’s staff was thankful for the spotlight this project has brought to its campus and is confident that the community will thoroughly enjoy the new play area.
