Middle and high school athletics are a staple of the Aurora Public Schools community. Students continue to find new ways to excel and make names for themselves and their teams. The 2025-26 winter sports season followed that same path for many APS student athletes and our community is proud to help celebrate some of their accomplishments.
Aurora Central Basketball and Wrestling
The Trojans made lots of noise on the hoop court this season and a little history as well on the mat.
Central won league championships in boys and girls basketball. Those wins made them league champions for the first time since 2013 (boys) and 2010 (girls). This was also the first time since 1979 that the boys and girls teams won league titles in the same year.
On the mat, the Trojans were proud to field their first-ever female wrestling team. Not only did the girls come ready to tangle, team members Tremoni Scaggs and Dryllynne Joseph qualified for the state wrestling tournament in February.
“I was emotional with gratitude knowing that I turned my physical fatigue into mental perseverance,” Dryllynne said. “Joining the team and enduring the season made me recognize that we all start somewhere, but it’s how you finish that matters.”
Not bad for a couple of first-timers, right?
Rangeview Boys Basketball
Judging by their success in recent years, the Raiders know what winning feels like. The team won it all in 2019, capturing the class 5A state championship. In 2024-25, they posted a 26-1 record and made it to the Final Four. Despite coming up short of another championship this season during a return trip to the Final Four, Rangeview finished atop the class 6A City League at 23-4, going undefeated in league play. We are confident that the Raiders will continue to shine as one of the best boys basketball teams in Colorado.
Vista PEAK Wrestling
Vista PEAK Preparatory seniors — and twin siblings — Amelia and Ian Bacon as well as junior Khloe Yizar left their mark during the 2026 Class 5A state tournament. Amelia and Khloe earned state titles in the 125- and 235-pound weight classes, respectively. Ian walked away with a third place finish following his 5-4 decision over his opponent from Prairie View High School. Khloe became the Bison’s second all-time state champion and Amelia finished her high school career as a back-to-back champion.
The Aurora Public Schools community couldn’t be more proud of our student athletes for representing themselves with such dignity and grace while competing at the highest levels.
Congratulations on a great season!
