In life, it is often said that the best ability is availability.
This September, Aurora Public Schools is proud to recognize Attendance Awareness Month by reminding students and their families that every school day matters!
When students attend school consistently, they gain the skills and knowledge needed to thrive academically and beyond. Research shows that regular attendance builds positive habits that contribute to positive outcomes in school and later in life.
Yet, sometimes challenges pop up! Transportation issues, family emergencies or unexpected childcare needs can all impact attendance. That’s why strong support networks and open communication between families and schools are so important.
Missing just two to three days of school per month adds up over the course of a year to nearly a month of missed instructional time. Data shows that students who are frequently absent often have worse interpersonal skills, experience more school-related stress, and have lower motivation and feelings of belonging at school than students who attend regularly.
Families, teachers, and our community all play a vital role. By encouraging attendance and helping students overcome barriers, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to power their potential.
Because being in school leads to succeeding in school and in life.
Here’s to a successful and well-attended 2025-26 school year!
