When students in Aurora Public Schools sit down to eat their school breakfast or lunch, it's important that their foods are both nutritious and delicious.
To determine whether students will like certain foods, APS hosts an annual "Meet & Eat" food show. This is a fun opportunity for all APS students and their families to come try new foods and then vote for their favorites.
The free event featured foods from nearly 50 vendors this year. Students and families could try dozens of foods including pepperoni pizza croissants, totchos (nachos made with tater tots) and vegetarian samosas.
There were also mantecada muffins or K-Pop peach crunch parfaits for dessert. The top vote-getters will appear on APS school lunch menus later this school year.
Katie Lopez, APS Nutrition Services Director, said she's excited about all of the nutritious foods offered at the Meet & Eat. "We're trying to find ways to get nutritious items into our kids through vegetables and different things," she said. "There's yucca fries and different fruits and things coming out that we're trying to appeal to kids with. So we're letting the kiddos try them to get their feedback and see if it's something they want on the menu."
For the "meet" portion of the Meet & Eat, students and families were able to meet Miles, the Denver Broncos mascot! Miles signed autographs and encouraged students to eat and play healthy.
